Dr. Katherine Stockman lives in a tight-knit community – she is woven into the town’s fabric and is viewed as a local hero after advocating for the popular local baths. One day she makes a disturbing discovery: the spa water for which the town is famed is severely polluted. Now the baths attract visitors and are central to the community’s prosperity, but this prosperity has been built on poison, and the truth must be told. Katherine believes it is her duty to alert the public. However, this decision quickly backfires. To her horror, people refuse to believe that there is a problem and argue that the economic well-being of the community must come first. What does she do? Does she fight for the truth if it means the loss of income, family, community, identity? Stockmann’s struggle unfolds as a powerful indictment of the hypocrisy that often surrounds public sentiment.
